If you've been to the Zoo recently, you might notice that the front gates are becoming very green. No, they aren't any more green in color than they have been in previous years, but they are much more eco-friendly, thanks to a new sustainability project that began this year and will run through next year. Newly installed Windspire turbines, Multipole solar pedestrian lighting fixtures, and solar panels on our admission gate kiosk buildings are allowing us to fuel our Zoo through the power of the planet's renewable resources. Working closely with Sustainable Developers, Inc., our goal is to collect 100 percent of our energy needs by using solar and wind power rather than using power from the traditional electric grid. Doing this will reduce energy costs and limit our impact on the environment.
