Your gift helps provide for the care, feeding, and enrichment of Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium animals while supporting the Zoo’s commitment to wildlife conservation, both locally and around the world.
There are many benefits to adopting an animal (click here to see a complete list of the benefits). Your name will be posted on the Adopt an Animal board on Zoo grounds (located next to the Safari Gift shop, and updated each spring). You will also receive a personalized adoption certificate, a magnet, an activity page, a photo fact sheet when adopting Featured Creatures, and a subscription to the Zoo Insider newsletter.

All adoptions are valid for a one-year period and may be renewed annually. All adopted animals may have multiple adoptive parents. No ownership rights are conferred by adopting an animal. All adopted animals remain in the care and custody of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, but we hope you will visit often!

  • Coral Conservation Fund
    • coralCoral only exists in about two percent of the world’s aquatic habitats, but it is home to over 25 percent of all aquatic life. Alarmingly, it is disappearing very quickly and some scientists predict that all coral could be gone in as soon as 50 years. The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is actively involved in coral conservation efforts both at the Zoo and around the world. Every year, aquarists perform outreach projects. Some coral has been brought back to the Zoo to be studied, and the veterinary and aquarist teams have even found cures for certain ailments for coral. Please consider a donation to support the Zoo’s efforts to conserve this vitally important animal.

Our Zoo takes in turtles who need long-term rehabilitation which frees up space at the coastal institutions so that they can treat turtles who need short-term rehabilitation. Contributions to the Sea Turtle Second Chance Fund allow more turtles to be helped and returned to their home in the ocean, giving them a second chance.
